Pediatric Behavioral Consultation
Dr. Haley Sims provides pediatric behavioral consultation services to families of children ages 0-18 years. Dr. Sims works with families on common concerns of early childhood; sleep, feeding, and toilet training. Specific examples of areas to target consultation and intervention include bedtime resistance and frequent night awakening, infant and toddler sleep, insomnia, resistant/picky eating, and toilet training readiness assessments and strategies. Dr. Sims will work with families to provide an assessment of the presenting concern, establish a treatment plan, and assist families in carrying out that treatment plan in their own homes. Have a concern or a question about your child’s behaviors? It is never too early and never too late. Contact us at CCNC to set up a phone call to discuss our pediatric behavioral consultation services.
Parent Coaching
Ellen Hurdish offers highly personalized support using an evidence-based, comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to equip families with strategies to improve relationships and help children be successful. So often, what is labeled as ‘misbehavior’ is simply a child’s attempt to express their needs or wants in the best way they know how. Considering this, we encourage parents to see all behavior as communication; by promoting this perceptual shift and encouraging parents to attribute positive intent, we begin to view misbehavior as a missing skill that must be learned and move forward with proven strategies to teach children new behaviors.
This method relies on three core components: safety, connection, and problem solving. A feeling of safety that is based on self-regulation strategies enhances adults’ and children’s ability to recognize and manage emotional upset. Connection helps build relationships to change adult and child perceptions, increase cooperation, and increase the willingness to learn and practice new skills. A focus on problem solving allows us to shift from ‘us versus them’ to ‘we’; by changing this response to conflict, we can boost adults’ and children’s resiliency and ability to adapt to changing situations.
